What We Really Do

We have fielded many questions lately about our blog and protecting our own IP know-how.  We welcome such inquiries and want to thank you, our readers, for your continued interest in our work.  As you might expect, there is a lot that we do for our clients that does not show up on our blog posts here.  Much of this is in the application of the strategy ideas we write about.  We are happy, for example, to discuss tenets of running a successful IP management operation such as focus, economization, freedom of action, and safety.  How we get there with you as a client is something we necessarily hold a bit tighter.

The most challenging aspect of our business is not any IP strategy consultant competitor. It’s a general misunderstanding among the pool of people with whom we could potentially work about what IP strategy actually means and how it can be applied to their businesses.

At a recent conference, I visited with at least a dozen firms at booths that listed themselves as IP strategy consultants.  What they were really doing was providing services that might support an IP strategy, such as IP valuation and IP landscaping, but themselves were not actually advising on strategy.

IP is a tool to favorably shape markets for your enterprise.  IP strategy is about securing and employing this tool to that end.  IP strategy consulting is about securing and employing this tool in some way measurably better, faster, or less costly than before.  This is our niche and business.  If you would like to know more, please give us a call.
