MTV & Rambus – get your positioning right when aggressively asserting IP

Sometimes there’s no choice – you just have to aggressively assert your IP rights.  Sometimes the concept of ‘choice’ doesn’t even arise.

That’s fine, but the way you present your assertiveness to the world will have an emormous impact on what happens after the court battles are over.

Rambus learned this the hard way when their aggressive positioning over patents only increased incentives for the semiconductor industry to find alternative technologies.

Now MTV appears to be annoying Hungarians with its branding moves in a country that has for 50 years had (and some would say loved) their own MTV – (Magyar Televizio).

The battle lines are drawn, but perhaps there’s another way…
