ASEAN Regional Patent Office?

The oft-quoted statistics about the dramatic rise in patent filings (and consequent pressure on national patent offices) are not only affecting China, the USA and Europe.

ASEAN countries have started planning their own regional approach to reducing the burden on national offices.

The process is just getting started so it's hard to know what will come out the other end.

However, it is another step along the global harmonisation (and simplification) of the patent system - which can only be good for its end users.

I know that a few years ago WIPO conducted a survey and that  ASEAN countries were still divided on a regional office.  Do you know if that has now been solved?

Hi Suzanne

Thanks - I don't know whether it has been explicitly solved, only that there has increased support at the 17 November meeting in Bangkok.
